Since joining MedPOINT Management in 2019, Shayna Rasmussen Ockey’s leadership and legal acumen have helped to drive contracting improvement and support the MedPOINT quality mission.
Mrs. Rasmussen started her career as a law clerk McAngus, Goudelock & Courie in Columba, South Carolina where she worked during law school to provide legal research and support across many legal disciplines including contract, tort, real estate, criminal law, workers’ compensation, and environmental law. While simultaneously attending law school and serving as a law clerk, Mrs. Rasmussen worked as a legal intern to the Hon. Clifton Newman, Chief Administrative Judge, 5th Judicial Circuit, and served on the Editorial Board of the South Carolina Journal of International Law and Business.
Following law school, Shayna was admitted to the South Carolina Bar and promoted to Associate at McAngus Goudelock & Courie. Mrs. Rasmussen transitioned into healthcare administration at Providence Health & Services where she served as a contracting liaison and manager for Providence’s San Fernando Valley-based facilities for local, statewide, and national contracting initiatives with some of the Health System’s largest health plan payers. At Providence Mrs. Rasmussen’s exposure to a wide range of healthcare provider entities and specialties, operational departments, contractual arrangements, risk-based agreements, value-based strategies, litigation, leadership teams, and initiatives allowed her to develop a unique combination of contract administration and management skills, which when combined with her legal experience, makes her invaluable in her current position as Vice President of Legal Affairs at MedPOINT.
In this role at MedPOINT, Mrs. Rasmussen serves as liaison to general and external counsel for MedPOINT and MedPOINT partners and ensures that government and private health plan contracts and policies are administered efficiently and appropriately for MedPOINT partner practices and patient members across all lines of business.
Mrs. Rasmussen graduated from Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina, with a Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, in Political Science and German before going on to earn her Doctor of Law degree at the University of South Carolina School of Law. Mrs. Rasmussen Ockey is a member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association, as well as the California and South Carolina Bar Associations. She currently resides in Los Angeles with her husband, their two sons, and their rescue dog, Keto.
